Lycée Français de New York is a renowned institution dedicated to providing bilingual French and American education at the highest standard. This project required us to develop a comprehensive brand identity that aligns with the school's mission of preparing students from diverse backgrounds to become critical thinkers, innovators, and leaders, capable of thriving in a global society.
This layered identity showcases the merging of two cultures, creating a third, while abbreviating its long name, and pays homage to the authority of the prestigious Palmes Académiques, a national order of France originally created in 1808. To capture this essence, we re-cut the palms icon as a wood engraving, representing the rich heritage and tradition of the school.
The project involved the creation of multiple logo lockups, as well as the design of stationery and promotional items such as school swag, which reflect the brand identity. Internal and external communication design materials, including magazine, brochures, digital assets and social content, express the school's values and mission. Environmental graphics and signage strategically placed throughout the school enhance the overall brand experience.
By developing a cohesive and visually compelling brand identity, we were able to successfully strengthen the reputation of the Lycée Français de New York as a premier educational institution.
TWO CULTURES: THE “FLAG”
Red and blue represent the colors of the flags of the US and France, the two core academic cultures of the school. The overlapping purple symbolizes the blending of these core cultures in an international environment. Paint strokes reflect the spirit of creativity and invention present in our students’ hands.
ONE LEGACY: THE “WREATH”
Drawn from the Lycée’s traditional school seal, the olive branch and laurel wreath represent the enlightened intellectual legacy of the Lycée and echo France’s Palmes Universitaire.
A PROMISING FUTURE: THE “NAME”
The modern font and bright white presentation of our name demonstrates a school that is ever forward thinking and embracing of innovation. Enlarging “Lycée New York” gives us a shorthand for the name... the word “Lycée” projects French heritage, “New York” proclaims location.
Leo the Lynx is the mascot of the athletics department. He is fast, agile and furry. He embodies the school’s spirit of determination and drive. As seen here, he can be used with the Athletic Type of the school name, or alone.
Leo the Lynx has a little sister—Lea. Lea is the mascot of the Lower School. She looks up to Leo, but she is soft and cuddly, and embodies the wide-eyed enthusiasm of the younger students both on and off the courts and fields.
