The International African American Museum (IAAM) will open its doors in 2023 to honor the often-overlooked stories of the African American journey at Gadsden's Wharf, one of the nation's most prolific former slave trading ports. Millions of Africans were captured, forced across the Atlantic in the inhumane Middle Passage, and arrived at Gadsden's Wharf and other ports in the Atlantic World. Their labor, resilience, and ingenuity, along with that of their descendants, have shaped every aspect of our world. The IAAM's mission is to explore the cultures and knowledge systems retained and adapted by Africans in the Americas, while showcasing the diverse journeys and achievements of these individuals and their descendants in South Carolina and throughout the African Diaspora.

While at Doyle Partners, I had the privilege of creating the brand for the International African American Museum (IAAM). It was a challenging undertaking that required a deep understanding of the museum's mission, history, and audience. Our design aimed to be a subtle yet powerful representation of the museum's values, with a focus on "Heritage and Growth." This concept symbolizes the enduring strength and drive of African American culture in the face of adversity. Our visual identity features a bold, modern icon that combines black and white chevrons to form the letters "AA." The logo is designed to be memorable and versatile, working seamlessly across various applications, from digital media to signage and merchandise.
